The Return of the Snuggle Bug
This is Owen, asleep in his crib, accompanied by several snuggle blankets, a sleep sac, an extra pair of pajama bottoms and who knows what else. In general, Owen has a good relationship with sleep. When he is tired he says, "night, night" and goes to sleep without a fuss. He is, however, an early riser and the eruption of his molars has only exacerbated that tendency. When Owen wakes between 4:30 and 6 AM, he is in no mood to discuss the earliness of the hour, how nice his crib is or whether it's time to go back to sleep. He wants company and he wants snuggles. He also preys on his parents' (or at least one parent in particular) weakness for warm, snugly babies. Once in bed, he just snuggles right up, relaxes in our arms and drifts back to sleep (the adults typically remain awake). Despite the fact that all of us would get more sleep and be less cranky if he stayed in his own bed, neither Stewart nor I have the motivation to take on painful negotiations at that hour of the day. You see the problem is, we like holding our warm little baby......
