As Matthew grows up, his need for Wormy has diminished a bit. To be sure, Wormy sleeps in Matthew's bed every night and accompanies him to quiet time, however, he no longer comes to school in Matthew's backpack and we no longer need to wash him every week. As you may remember there are two Wormies (Matthew can tell the difference based on how their tails have been chewed....). Now Matthew just wants one of them. The other is in our bed, because Matthew wanted to make sure that we had a Wormy in case we needed one. Luckily, Oscar has been willing to fill the void, so Wormy can be assured of a continued source of affection and snuggling.
