Oh the excitement! A big orange tent in our backyard and getting to sleep outside! And the sleeping bag!! Excitement all around. Since there are so many beautiful places in CA and so little rain, we'd like to start camping when the kids are a little older. We're a little low on equipment at the moment, so we have started with sleeping out in the garden. Stewart spent the night with Matthew and they had a great time although there wasn't a lot of sleeping involved. After crawling in and out of the sleeping bag, moving the flashlight from one indoor pocket to another, bouncing on the air mattress and lots of giggling, Matthew passed out in my ancient LL Bean sleeping bag. Stewart spent the night shivering on the air mattress with an inadequate comforter and feeling jealous of Matthew all warm and toasty in the sleeping bag. Yes, we'll need proper equipment but are looking forward to national park trips next year.
