Matthew's First Set of Wheels

Completed Dune Racer

Matthew's first set of wheels is a Fisher Price Dune Racer. It is powered by a 12 V battery and sounds like a tank division when driven on concrete. Matthew saved his allowance, Birthday and Christmas money and money from chores over a 6 month period in order to make this purchase.

Of course a toy like this arrives in a 70 lb box and needs to be assembled. The first sentence of the instructions recommends that children not be present when assembling the car.  Stewart decided instead that this was an opportunity for father/son bonding. Despite considerable distraction and provocation, he managed to build the car with help from the boys and not lose his temper. The Dune Racer works beautifully and the boys are having a great time with it. We can blather on about the educational value of Matthew learning to look behind him when he is backing up, but at the end of the day it is fabulously fun toy for a car obsessed boy.
