2012 was the year of the superheroes. Superman and Batman along with their faithful sidekicks, Wonderdog (Chelsea) and Batwoman (me) took to the streets of Palo Alto on a candy collection mission. We were very successful and our heroes returned home spent and overstiumulated with goodie bags full of treats.
Is it just me or is Halloween trying to take over Christmas? The vast majority of students at El Carmelo Elementary School arrived in costume. There was a pumpkin carving contest, a parade, a performance of Thriller by the older kids, in-classroom performances and a party. Owen was technically not allowed to wear a costume to school. As it happens, his teacher is a Red Sox fan, so he was able to sneak his jersey in and his class still had a parade. I'm not quite sure what to make of this because in the Good Old Days, Halloween started after 5 PM and was all about the candy. That being said, it is a fun holiday. Pumpkin carving is on its way to being a new art form and I enjoy the retro costumes - Mario, Luigi and Ghostbusters to name a few.
