Christmas 2010

In addition to the adorable image of a baby checking out his Grandpa's coffee, this photo shows a mug that says, "Keep Calm and Carry On". We attempted to follow that command this Christmas but there wasn't a lot of calm going around. My parents came to stay, there was a tree with lights, an abundance of presents, all kinds of sugary delicious foods and many non routine activities.
This was probably not a very restful visit for the grandparents. My father is one of the few people with the intellectual energy to keep up with Matthew and handle his bottomless well of questions. As a result he was routinely pressed into Matthew management duties which he discharged with aplomb. He has been bringing Matthew Mr Men books from around the world - Australia, London, Berkeley and Belgium. We now have quite a collection which we all enjoy. Fun activities included watching the model plane enthusiasts fly their jets, helicopters and biplanes and a holiday train exhibit.  We had two very nice visits from Robin and caught a glimpse of John before he went on Christmas Eve call. Although  things were hectic with the kids, the food was good and the wine was better. Stewart bravely tried out our new kitchen gadget (a sous vide) to cook the steak and it was delicious!
Christmas morning was just as full of excitement. We enjoyed cinnamon rolls from Kentucky and opened many gifts. Santa did bring Matthew a big, long, purple car as requested. Even Owen is fascinated by it although he clearly wishes he could ride in it.  In addition to wonderful gifts, Santa also brought a blizzard to the East Coast so my parents got 2 bonus days in San Francisco and an arduous trip home. We hope they'll still want to come back next year after all of that !!!
