The summer is starting to wind down. Matthew is back in school in less than 2 weeks. The kids enjoyed their camps and visiting family. We had visits from my parents and Aunt Virginia. In the fall, Matthew will return to El Carmelo for 1st grade and Owen will finish Pre K at Trinity. We are sad to say goodbye to Leila who is leaving to pursue her studies full time.
In Palo Alto, it was a summer of construction. Silicon Valley is indeed booming. Both Stewart and I have been busy at work. We have watched the neighborhood ranch houses built in the 1940s and 50s torn down and replaced with much larger homes as Facebook and other successful start up employees settle in. The neighborhoods are transitioning and it will be interesting to see how it develops.
For fall projects, we will keep up with the usual activities - swimming, gymnastics and perhaps soccer. We are also in the early stages of a Chicken Project. Common sense dictates that raising chickens in one's suburban backyard is a bit eccentric or perhaps, completely ridiculous. At the moment, however, it is actually quite chic to do so. We can claim that we are joining the slow food movement or some other nonsense. In any case, more to come as the project progresses.
