Owen at 7 months is such a joy. He can sit up on his own for reasonable periods of time. His first tooth is coming in. While not perfect, he sleeps reasonably well at night and during the day. He eats well he and has an easy going temperament. We think he's just great.
We are particularly grateful to him today. Due to baby sitter illness, Owen accompanied us on our first house hunting expedition and he was perfect. He remained calm and content, babbling happily in the back seat for over two hours. This coming year should bring lots of excitement as our landlords want to sell the house we live in. We've decided rather than move into another rental, that it's time to take the plunge and get our own place. We think we will have to move by the end of March so we hope our real estate agent is correct that December and January are likely to be good months to buy in and that the housing market is less insane than it has been.
Our baby sitter's illness bring up another hot topic for the year. Fortunately, she is just out with bronchitis and doesn't have the much dreaded FLU. I've heard that some people think that flu vaccines are a plot by the government to control the population in some way, but most parents I know would really like to have the vaccine to protect their children. Therein lies the problem. Our supposedly excellent and well connected pediatrics office only yesterday acquired such a limited amount of swine flu vaccine that they are only contacting their most at risk patients (Don't call them and tie up their phone lines, they'll let us know when they have it already!). The rest of us are left lining up for hours at the Santa Clara Fairgrounds to be vaccinated by the county. Sounds like no big deal except that the lines have been known to stretch for 3/4 of a mile and people camp out starting as early as 4 AM to get a good place in line. There is a whole strategy of sending family members ahead and trying to time it before they close the gates so parents with small children aren't in line for 6 hrs. Not a good scene. We have waited in the hopes that we would be able to get it through our doctor but with flu season starting in earnest we're less comfortable waiting for them. We are thoroughly frustrated and angry at our pediatrics office since many other pediatricians and all Kaiser patients have had access to the vaccine for quite some time. If we're feeling up to it, we will brave the big line this weekend.
